That's right, you read the title correctly. I swear that teachers should receive some political-candidate type training in how to not-say what you're really saying while talking to parents.
You basically have to develop a code that you can memorize and use for situations you run into often. This is NOT where I disclose my own personal code phrases, I took Poli Sci, I know what not to say! ;)
But a few "official" code phrases that the education profession have made are things like:
"They often become dis-regulated"- This translates to, the kicking, screaming & biting make ME want to kick, scream & bite someone!
"They need to work on their attention span & focus" - This means, you know that crazy squirrel in Over the Hedge? That's your kid!
So the next time you chat with your child's teacher about how your little Bobby is doint in school, try to remember that what they're NOT saying is just as important as what they ARE saying!

I couldn't imagine having to give parent-teacher interviews for your class, but I am in awe of the artful negotiation of words and thoughts it must take!
